hearing virtuosity and soulfulness all in one musician. Steve is simply one of the
world’s greatest musicians of our time (the Michael Jordan of the banjo) and
‘Appalachian Uprising’ is one of the very best banjo albums ever recorded.

Steve can seemingly do anything- from rip roaring banjo to sensitive sound
effects and tones only heard on his banjo.

This album contains ALL ORIGINAL music ranging from hardcore bluegrass (containing dangerously high levels of octane considered ‘highly illegal’ in most jurisdictions) to delicate, sophisticated classical compositions performed accurately and tastefully. As one poet said: “Diversity can not be accomplished without the true perception of experience”. As listeners, we rely on the composer and the players to breath the honesty and intent of the music.

I’ve personally watched over the years and marveled over the technical innovations Steve created on his instrument. But he is quick to reveal the source.... goals set for this album were to perform definitive versions of each piece- so therein lies his innovations and inspirations.
